Players of the Bangladesh national football team stand together on the field.

Bangladesh were completely outplayed by Australia in their first match of the Asia Cup qualifiers. The hosts lost by a huge margin of 7-0. After this defeat, Bangladesh team coach Shamit Kattalayan said that he was proud of his disciples. However, he also admitted that what he wanted on the field was not fully realized.

At the post-match press conference, Shamit Kattalayan said, "I am proud of the team. They fought until the end. But, to be honest, we couldn't do what we wanted." Although he did not directly say anything about the team's tactical weaknesses, his words hinted at opportunities for improvement.

While Australia is at number 22 in the FIFA rankings, Bangladesh is at number 184. Playing against such a strong opponent was undoubtedly a tough test for Bangladesh. Still, Australia was aggressive from the start of the match. They took a 5-0 lead in the first half of the match. Although Bangladesh tried to put up some resistance in the second half, they conceded two more goals.

Smit Kattalayan, however, is looking at this big loss positively. He said, "We will learn from this. We will identify our mistakes and prepare for the next match." He also believes that this match will serve as a great experience for the young players of Bangladesh.

The coach expressed optimism that the Bangladesh football team will be stronger in the future. He said that they will emphasize on improving the fitness and tactical skills of the players.
