Gaza, June 1, 2025 – Israel’s indiscriminate attacks on the besieged Gaza Strip in Palestine continue unabated. At least 60 more Palestinians have been killed and nearly 300 injured in the past 24 hours, the Palestinian Health Ministry said, citing sources in the Turkish-based Anadolu news agency. The total death toll in Gaza since the horrific attack began in October 2023 has now exceeded 54,400.

The Health Ministry said in a statement on Saturday (May 31) that 60 more bodies had arrived at Gaza hospitals in the past 24 hours. At the same time, 284 people were injured, bringing the total number of Palestinians injured since October to over 124,000. The ministry also said that many people are still trapped under the rubble and on the streets, but they cannot be rescued because rescue workers have not been able to reach the scene safely.  As a result, the actual number of casualties is expected to be much higher.

The humanitarian situation in war-torn Gaza has become dire. The United Nations and various aid agencies have repeatedly warned that this is a planned humanitarian disaster. More than 90 percent of Gaza's population has been displaced. Schools, hospitals, markets, mosques, roads—all types of infrastructure have been severely damaged or completely destroyed by Israeli attacks. People there are constantly struggling to survive without food, medicine, and safe shelter.

The attack is happening at a time when the international community has practically failed to ensure a ceasefire and humanitarian assistance in Gaza. Israel has resumed operations in Gaza since a draft ceasefire agreement collapsed in March.

Meanwhile, the international justice process for Israel's aggression is also gaining momentum.  In November 2023, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. In addition,1 a genocide case filed by South Africa against Israel is pending before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Hamas has recently proposed some amendments to the US-proposed ceasefire draft. Hamas has demanded the withdrawal of all Israeli troops from Gaza and the release of Palestinian prisoners. However, the White House has described Hamas' amendments as 'unacceptable'. As a result, the prospects for a ceasefire are once again in doubt, and in the meantime, Israeli attacks and casualties are continuing in Gaza.
