| Shubman Gill looks at the Indian cricket team's dressing room, where Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's jerseys are missing. |
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli - The Indian team has entered a new era without these two pillars of Indian cricket. After recently winning the T20 World Cup, these two stars have bid farewell to international T20 cricket. In their absence, the Indian team has gone to England to play Tests for the first time, and is India feeling their absence on the field? This is the question that is going around in the cricket community.
Rohit and Kohli have been the backbone of Indian batting for the last ten years. From Adelaide to Lord's, from Chipkok to Cape Town - the bats of these two experienced cricketers were the team's hope everywhere. It was unthinkable for India to play Tests without them. Earlier, India last played a Test without these two stars in January 2022. But the departure of these two stars, who had captained for 11 long years, has created a huge void in the team.
Although India lost the chance to play the final of the 2023-25 Test Championship after the defeat in the Test series against Australia, the team is playing a five-match Test series against England under the leadership of new Indian Test captain Shubman Gill. The team includes young cricketers like Sai Sudarshan, Nitish Kumar Reddy. Even Karun Nair has returned to the Test team after 8 years.
Many analysts believe that in the absence of experienced batsmen like Rohit and Kohli, there will be additional pressure on young cricketers like Lokesh Rahul, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant. However, former Australian cricketer Michael Clarke believes that this Indian team is much stronger without Rohit-Kohli. He feels that India can win in England without these stars. But the performance on the field will show how much the team misses Rohit and Kohli.
