After a one-day closure on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha, the Dhaka Metrorail has resumed operations from Sunday (June 8, 2025). However, an important instruction has been issued for passengers: no raw or cooked meat of any kind can be carried in the Metrorail. This ban has been issued keeping in mind the issue of transporting animal meat after Eid.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) said in a notification that passengers will be properly searched at each gate of the Metro station. If any passenger is found with raw or cooked meat, his entry to the Metro station will be blocked immediately. Metrorail security personnel have also been instructed to strictly implement this instruction.
Metrorail authorities said that trains will run every 30 minutes from 8 am on Sunday. From Monday, the Metrorail will operate according to the schedule of public holidays.
This rule has been introduced mainly keeping in mind cleanliness and passenger comfort. Every coach of the Metrorail is air-conditioned. The smell of meat or the liquid released from it can cause discomfort to other passengers and spoil the atmosphere of the train, which is why this decision was made. Earlier, there was a ban on transporting various items including fish, vegetables, animal skins, open food in the Metrorail. These restrictions will also remain in place as usual.
