Socioeconomic Empowerment of Women: Roundtable on Microfinance and Climate Resilience
An important roundtable meeting was recently held on the socio-economic empowerment and inclusion of women. In this meeting, a detailed discussion was held on how microfinance and climate resilience can play a role in improving the quality of life of women. Experts opined that these two areas are very important in women's empowerment.
Speakers at the roundtable meeting said that microfinance has opened a new horizon for women to achieve economic independence. Many women have started small businesses with microfinance and made themselves self-reliant. As a result, their status in the family and society has increased. However, it is not enough to just give loans, but proper training in using loans and establishing connections with markets must be established.
Women and children are the most affected by climate change in countries like Bangladesh. Natural disasters such as floods, cyclones, and droughts make women's lives more difficult. In this situation, it is essential to make women climate resilient. The meeting discussed how women can be taught new technologies in agriculture, given leadership in disaster management, and provided with the necessary knowledge and support to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
Experts also said that women's empowerment is not limited to economic issues. It is a matter of education, health, decision-making, and ensuring their active participation at every level of society. If microfinance and climate resilience initiatives are implemented in a coordinated manner, it will accelerate the overall empowerment of women.
Various non-governmental organizations, government representatives, and development partners present at the meeting pledged to work together for the socio-economic development of women. They expressed hope that the recommendations derived from this discussion will be helpful in policy formulation and will have a positive impact on changing the quality of life of women at the grassroots level.
