United Arab Emirates (UAE) captain Mohammad Wasim has been named the ICC Massera Player of the Month for May. His impressive performance in the T20 series against Bangladesh earned him the honour. By winning the award, Wasim has created history – he is the first cricketer from an associate member country to win the Massera Award twice. He had previously received the recognition in April last year.
Wasim led the UAE team to a historic victory in the three-match T20 series against Bangladesh in May. Wasim single-handedly scored 145 runs in that series. His innings of 54 runs off 39 balls in the first T20 played a key role in the team's victory. In the second match, he played a devastating innings of 82 runs off just 42 balls, which gave the UAE a taste of their first T20 victory against Bangladesh, chasing a huge target of 206 runs.
Mohammad Wasim expressed his joy at being named the best batsman. He thanked the ICC and all those who voted for him. Wasim said, "The series win against Bangladesh will be a memorable one for us. This award is a testament to the progress of UAE cricket." His achievement is not only personal, but also a big milestone for Emirates cricket, which will encourage young cricketers.
Wasim was in the running to be the best batsman along with Scotland's Brendon McMullan and the United States' Milind Kumar. However, Wasim's consistently explosive batting has earned him this honor. His achievement will undoubtedly strengthen the UAE's position in world cricket.
