Popular cricket star AB de Villiers has given a special 'disaster message' for Australia this time. Although the T20 World Cup 2024 has recently ended, where Australia was eliminated in the semi-finals, de Villiers' comment is mainly around the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final. He did not directly comment on Australia's 'disaster' regarding the T20 World Cup, but rather mentioned that defeating favourites Australia in the World Test Championship final would be a big 'upset' for South Africa.
In an interview with Star Sports, AB de Villiers said regarding the World Test Championship (WTC) final, "Australia are undoubtedly the favourites. They are a very experienced and well-organised team." However, he stressed, "I think South Africa are capable of beating them. I would call Australia's defeat an 'upset' because they are the clear favourites." De Villiers believes that South Africa are in great form at the moment and playing the final at a historic ground like Lord's is a great opportunity for them.
Incidentally, Australia reached the semi-finals of the 2024 T20 World Cup but failed to win the title, which was unexpected for many. Such predictions by de Villiers have always sparked new discussions about the direction of cricket and many of his words have later proven true.
