Dhaka, June 2, 2025 – The court has granted permission to interrogate Workers Party President and former minister Rashed Khan Menon for another five days in a money laundering case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Dhaka Senior Special Judge Court Judge Mohammad Assams Jaglul Hossain issued the order on Sunday (June 2). Earlier, Menon was remanded for three days on May 28, after which a fresh remand application was filed today.

ACC Public Prosecutor (PP) Mir Ahmed Ali Salam confirmed this information to the media. He said that when Rashed Khan Menon was produced in court today, the investigating officer of the case and ACC Deputy Director Syed Tahsinul Haque applied for another seven-day remand against him. The application said that he needed to be interrogated more intensively for a fair investigation of the case and uncovering important information.

On the other hand, Rashed Khan Menon's lawyers have filed a bail application seeking cancellation of the remand. They argue that Menon is a senior politician and is ill. Moreover, the charges brought against him are politically motivated. However, after hearing both sides, the court granted a five-day remand.

It is worth noting that the Anti-Corruption Commission filed a case against Rashed Khan Menon on May 27 on charges of money laundering. He was arrested soon after the case was filed. Earlier, allegations of laundering a huge amount of money were made against his son, Canadian citizen Rashiqul Hasan Menon, and his wife, along with some others. The ACC has been investigating Rashed Khan Menon's involvement for a long time.

Initial investigation revealed that about one thousand crore taka has been laundered in Canada in the name of Rashiqul Hasan Menon and his wife. He has been taken on remand to investigate the source of this money and Rashed Khan Menon's involvement in it. ACC sources said that some people have already been questioned in this case and some information has been obtained.

The remand of Rashed Khan Menon has sparked a new discussion in the country's political arena. His party, the Workers' Party, has termed the arrest and remand as 'political harassment'. They claim that such steps are being taken to weaken the opposition alliance ahead of the upcoming national elections.
