BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman's five-point pledge to protect the environment announced on the occasion of World Environment Day is being highlighted at a party meeting.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has pledged to take five effective steps to protect the country's environment. He said, "Environmental conservation is no longer a luxury, it is an inevitable demand of the time."

The five initiatives announced by Tarique Rahman include: formulating a national green recovery plan prioritizing reforestation, renewable energy, and sustainable agriculture; banning harmful plastics and toxic chemicals and encouraging the use of eco-friendly products for industry and households; undertaking a full-scale dredging and restoration program of rivers and canals to combat waterlogging and protect the aquatic ecosystem; providing assistance in building climate-resilient agriculture and infrastructure in vulnerable areas of the southern part of the country; and integrating environmental education into school curricula to create a generation of environmentally conscious citizens.

He said, "Short-sighted industrialization and unplanned development have threatened the natural balance around the world. Preserving the natural beauty and biodiversity of Bangladesh is a moral responsibility towards our future generations."

Tarique Rahman further mentioned that BNP has given importance to environment-friendly activities since its inception. In 1977, President Ziaur Rahman launched the Environmental Pollution Control Project, which later became an important department of the Department of Environment. In 1995, Khaleda Zia enacted the Environment Protection Act and laid the foundation of the Environment Court.

He said, “Let us sow the seeds of hope on this World Environment Day and build a sustainable, green and livable Bangladesh. Which will be a strong legacy for our future generations.”
